    This is a cabinet level position in a fiscally sound, AAA bonded rated municipality. Reporting directly to the City Manager, this position serves as the City’s Chief Fiscal Officer and Treasurer/Collector. The successful candidate will oversee the City’s long range strategic financial planning and serve as the principal financial advisor to the City Manager. This position leads the Finance (Revenue and Treasury), Budget, Assessing, Purchasing, Information Technology and General Services functions, and works in close collaboration with the Auditing Department. Principal responsibilities include the planning, implementation, oversight, integrity, and reporting of the City’s operating budget ($884M- FY24) and capital budget ($185M - FY24); financial forecasts; investment of funds; policy and goal setting for the City’s Finance Department. This position also serves as Treasurer of the City of Cambridge’s Retirement Board and may also be assigned special projects by the City Manager. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, and possess a strong working knowledge of the applicable Massachusetts municipal finance laws. This is a highly visible position that demands attention to detail, excellent problem solving, communication, presentation, negotiation, and management skills.  

    BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, or related field with 10 years progressively responsible management experience in government or finance-related field, preferably in a municipal setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong negotiation skills. Self-motivated, positive attitude, initiative taker with the ability to lead, be a team player, and build consensus with diverse stakeholders.  Strong sense of ownership over team deliverables with high attention to detail. Ability to creatively solve problems and serve as thought partner to other City leaders. The ability to interact professionally with outside consultants, senior leaders, City employees and the public.

    $236,282 annually + excellent benefits
