Chatham, MA (6,604 population, increasing to over 30,000 in summer), is seeking an experienced and visionary municipal finance leader with exceptional financial acumen to serve as its next Director of Finance. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional to join an innovative and high-functioning organization. Applicants should have superior analytical and organizational skills. The next Director must be highly collaborative and able to work well with colleagues and officials. The Director of Finance reports to the Town Manager and oversees the Finance Department including the offices of Accounting, Treasurer/Collector, Assessing, and Information Technology. Responsibility examples: Development and proper expenditure of Town operating budget; collection and proper accounting for revenue streams; fiscal review/impact of staff reports; financial forecasts; financial analyses of projects; collective bargaining participation; long- and short-range financial planning; capital improvement plan; risk management programs; internal and operational audits; serve as member of Town Manager’s leadership team. Chatham is a seaside town known for its maritime heritage, beaches, wildlife, and natural beauty, located on the elbow of Cape Cod and surrounded on three sides by water. Chatham is a popular destination for tourists with world class resorts and a vibrant community for year-round residents. The Town has achieved a AAA rating since 2009 and has an FY24 operating budget (without regional education assessments) of $37.76 million, a five-member Select Board, and Open Town Meeting. The successful candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with CPA, CGA, or MMAFO preferred, and 7-10 years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
