The Town of Stoneham (Pop. 22,000), a desirable and fiscally sound community with a FY23 budget of $96 million, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Town Accountant. The Town Accountant works under the general supervision of the Stoneham Select Board.
The Town Accountant performs highly critical functions of a complex and technical nature that require significant ethical and professional judgment to ensure that all municipal financial transactions conform to state and municipal law and to professional standards. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to formulate and execute decisions regarding policies, procedures, operations and plans at the department level.
Ideal qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field (Masters or CPA preferred) with 5-7 years progressively responsible experience in accounting, of which at least three years are in municipal accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in MUNIS and Massachusetts Municipal Auditors’ and Accountants’ Association (MMAAA) certification (or ability to pursue) preferred. Salary range $120,000-$130,000 +/-, negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
