The City of New Bedford (population 100,000; FY21 Budget: $363.9 million) seeks qualified applicants for the position of City Auditor. The City Auditor acts as the General Accounting Office for the City. The Auditor’s department processes accounts payable for all City departments after review of invoices, and processes payroll after input by City departments. Its main responsibilities are monitoring the City’s expenses for compliance with the adopted budget and applicable laws, ordinances and policies that may apply. The department coordinates the annual City Audit. The Auditor also lists the actual total local receipts collected for the Tax Recapitulation each year as well as other reports for the State, such as the annual Snow and Ice report and Accounts Receivable. New Bedford has an S&P rating of AA- and a Moody’s rating of A1. Candidates should have strong knowledge of GAAP, Statements of the Government Accounting Standards Board, OMB Circular A-133 (Single Audit), and Uniform Mass. Accounting System. Candidates should be proficient with MUNIS or an equivalent financial accounting suite of software, DLS Gateway, and Microsoft Excel and Word. Supervisory experience is required. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in accounting, finance, business, management, public administration, or relevant field. Applicants should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting, finance, business management, or public administration, or related field.
