    The Town of Longmeadow, MA is seeking qualified applicants for the Full Time position of Director of Finance and Administration. The Director of Finance and Administration is the strategic financial planner for all Town financing objectives and is a critical member of the Town’s leadership team managing a municipal operating budget of approximately $74 Million. Under general direction of the Town Manager, plans, organizes, directs and controls the operations and activities of the Department of Administration and Finance, including accounting, collections, treasury, assessing and purchasing. Supervises all business, fiscal and financial activities of all town agencies Coordinates the annual budget process for the Town to include a budget schedule that meets the deadline dates as required, and is responsible for coordinating with the Finance Committee, the review of the Town budget, and Town Meeting Warrant Articles that have a financial component.

    With on-going consultation and collaboration with the Town Manager, responsible for capital and operating budget development and for managing budgetary control through periodic revenue and expenditure reports to departments and other Town officials and through periodic analysis of activities. Oversees the Town's audit and prepares the formal response to the audit and is charged with implementing approved recommendations. Plans and supervises operational audits of the activities of Town Departments to evaluate the efficiency of resource utilization and the effectiveness of the service delivery.

    Master of Public or Business Administration or related field plus seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in municipal finance or administration. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal accounting and of the applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws, including retirement law.

    Strong managerial and communication skills; ability to manage multiple project assignments under occasional time constraints; ability to interact tactfully and effectively with department managers, state officials and citizen boards and committees. Excellent organizational skills. Proficient in the use of computer programs and applications to include Google Suites and Microsoft Suites, email and the internet; and the Towns financial software Munis. Advanced spreadsheet skills required. Ability to learn other departmental related software programs.

    Evening attendance at Commission, Board, and Committee meetings required. Serves as Assistant Town Accountant in the absence of an appointed Assistant Town Accountant.
