    Under general supervision of the Chair of the Needham Contributory Retirement Board, the Retirement Administrator provides technical information and policy interpretation regarding retirement benefits and programs to the Town’s employees and retirees who receive a monthly benefit.  The Retirement Administrator provides support and explanation to members of the Retirement Board to ensure that the provisions of MGL Chapter 32 are properly applied and implemented.

    Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

    • Oversee the daily operation of the Needham Retirement Office
    • Administers various types of pension benefits for members
    • Produces mandatory state financial reports and other reports as requested
    • Interprets and enforces the provisions of MGL Chapter 32, PERAC regulations, and decisions rendered by DALA, CRAB, IAB, IRS and DOR
    • Maintains the Retirement System accounting system including issuance of monthly benefit checks, calculation of COLA’s, updates to retiree benefit records, trial balance, receipts/disbursement/adjusting journals, account reconciliation, accounts receivable and payable, IRS filings and reporting, issuance of 1099R’s, and assists annual auditor process
    • Manages confidential files; enrollment, adjustment and transfer of retirement members; provides information/data to actuary as required


    To be considered for the position, applicants must have at least:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Accounting
    • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in a Massachusetts retirement system; equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Supervisory experience
    • Proficiency in MS Office suite
    • Ability to interpret statute and regulations, and explain retirement programs to members and others

    Position:                             Full Time 
    Annually Salary Range:     $68,971.50 - $82,407.00
